Myth: Diabetes isn't in my family, so I can't get it.

Fact: Personal lifestyle factors such as overall health, weight gain, stress, and sedentary lifestyle can make it more likely to get diabetes.

Myth: Managing your blood sugar is the only way to deal with type 2 diabetes.

Fact: In addition to monitoring your personal safe zones for blood sugar levels, type 2 diabetes management requires proper diet, exercise, managing stress, and creating routines with medical professionals that are right for you.

Myth: There is one special diet for managing diabetes.

Fact: People living with type 2 diabetes may benefit from an array of diets that include high protein, fiber, and those that are full of fruits, veggies, whole grains, and more.

Myth: Carbs and sugars should be avoided at all costs.

Fact: Some carbs like whole grains and vegetables can be not only good for you but essential to your wellness. Making sure you're meeting your daily nutritional needs safely is most important. Ask your doctor what amounts are safe for you.

Myth: Being overweight will give you diabetes.

Fact: While being overweight may increase your chances, any person at any size can be diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

Myth: Getting diabetes under control is a matter of attitude and willpower.

Fact: There are many different factors at play when managing diabetes. Some of these include awareness and access to resources.
